Did you know that 29 of the top 32 holdings in our pension fund, the Pennsylvania Public School Employee’s Retirement System pension fund (PSERS) are in oil and gas companies- including Energy Transfer Partners?
Energy Transfer Partners is the company responsible for brutal treatment of indigenous people, the Standing Rock Sioux members protecting sacred burial grounds and local water supplies from the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) in North Dakota.
Current and retired educators across Pennsylvania are organizing to tell PSERS to divest from Energy Transfer Partners and other fossil fuel companies.
In Pennsylvania, Energy Transfer Partners and other companies are involved in massive pipeline build-outs to move gas to shipping ports. Sunoco Logistics, which just announced a plan to merge with Energy Transfer Partners, is involved in several fossil fuel projects that are hurting Pennsylvania families. The corporation is using the power of eminent domain to take Pennsylvanians’ land in building its Mariner East Pipeline project across the state.
At the same time, these pipelines, fracking wells, and refineries increase asthma rates for our kids and pollute our communities.
Please join PA educators and retirees by signing this letter demanding that PSERS begin the process of divesting from pipelines and fossil fuels.
The letter will be delivered to PSERS at their December 7th 2016 board meeting- so sign it ASAP! Then forward to any public school educators or retirees you know.
